Weekend & Evening MBAs
How do I customize the curriculum?
First, everyone starts with the basics – marketing, finance, economics, and more. Then you customize your MBA by selecting courses that fit your career goal. Dive deep into finance. Explore real estate. Cultivate your leadership skills. It’s up to you when you choose UNC’s Weekend or Evening Program.
Both Programs share the same curriculum. You’ll learn to use analytical models and tools, develop results-driven strategies, and sharpen your leadership skills with two types of courses:
- Core courses provide broad business knowledge: You’ll begin the Program with rigorous core courses so everyone has a common foundation.
- Elective courses focus on your career goals: During the final eight months, you will select at least 10 elective courses from more than 40 choices, including global immersions to Europe, Latin America, Africa or Asia. Few top-ranked schools offer such a wide variety.

What does an EMBA marketing degreeentail and what are the courses?
Brian,
During the MBA for Executives Program, you will earn an MBA degree from UNC Kenan-Flagler. This degree is the same prestigious degree awarded to our daytime students. While we offer an extensive selection of electives – more than 40 each year – students do not earn a concentration in one particular area, such as marketing.
Check out the curriculum pages of our Web site, though, to see descriptions of the core and elective courses. If you still have questions, call me: 919-962-2499.

I am going to take my GMAT next month. What type of score should I be aiming for to be competitive for the Weekend Program?
Steven,
There’s no particular figure we’re looking for. Rather, we will look at your GMAT score along with the other elements within your application to see if – together – they indicate you have strong enough quantitative abilities to perform well in class. That being said, the average GMAT score for the Weekend class is generally somewhere between 600-625. I hope that helps. If you have any further questions about the GMAT or your application, please don’t hesitate to call me 919-962-2499.

MBA for Executives Staff
I have three questions:
1) Is UNC planning on offering a Part-time weekend MBA in the near future (1-3 years)?
2) What percentage of UNC EMBA students are less than 29 years in age, with 5 years experience?
3) If I am local to UNC, what percentage of the total tuition published on your website is related to weekend accomodations? Or would I have to pay the total amout either way?
Hi Desai,
To answer your questions:
1) We do not have any plans to offer a part-time program. As you have probably seen, we offer three executive formats: Evening MBA (2 evenings per week for 24 months + 2 immersion weekends); Weekend MBA (every other weekend for 20 months + 2 immersion weeks); OneMBA (one 3-day weekend a month for 21 months + 4 week-long global immersions) to accommodate working professionals.
2) We require a minimum of 5 years work experience, for which we make very few exceptions. You’ll find the class profiles with average age and work experience levels here:
http://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/emba/mbaprograms/evening/profile.cfm
http://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/emba/mbaprograms/weekend/profile.cfm
There will certainly be a handful of people in the class who are in their late 20s (average offset by handful of people in the class who are in their 40s or 50s) and on the lower end of the work experience spectrum.
3) We require that all students participate in all aspects of the program, including the overnight immersions. So, tuition is all-inclusive and covers lodging, food, books, materials and student fees.
I hope that helps!
