Life Balance

How will I manage it all?

Let’s assume you’ve decided an MBA is worth the investment of time and money. How will you juggle school on top of an already full life?

In addition to class time, most students spend 12 to 20 hours each week in individual study or team meetings. No two ways around it–you’ll need support from all sides:

  • Family: If you have a family–and most of our students do–you will need their support. Your partner will probably take on more responsibilities while you are in class or studying. And you’ll want to show your appreciation by setting aside time just for family. It’s a juggling act, but many students have done it, and they are glad to share their experience with you.
  • Employer: Even if you’re paying for your MBA, you still need support from your company. You may need to cut back on overtime hours, and time for business travel may be limited. Weekend and OneMBA students miss some Friday workdays. It’s important to sell your employer on the value your education will add to the company.
  • Staff: We handle the details–order your books and materials, arrange hotels, and make sure you’re well fed. But more important, we listen and respond to make sure you get the most from your MBA investment.

My children are 8 and 10, and I’m concerned about how my going to school with affect them. Can you get me in touch with a mother in the Evening program I can talk to?

      Barbara,

I’m happy to help. Many of our executive MBA students have families with children. I have a few students in mind who would be able to provide you with some helpful advice. I’ll put you in touch via email, and then you (and the student) can correspond at your convenience.

      Holly Rice, director, Evening Program
